Selected as Kerala Section Student Representative in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010 Kerala Section was one of the sections that implemented Student Representative at the earliest.
Our IEEE student branch was been recognized as the most active student branch in Kerala Section by nominating our student as the Student Representative for 2001. Since then our Student Branch actively supported the Kerala Section and its student activities by taking up responsible roles as Student Representative in the years 2002,2004,2005,2006, 2008 and 2010.
Won the Best Student Branch Award from Kerala section four times
Since the inception of the branch in the year 1996, our branch has been recognized by the Kerala section. In addition, the SB had grabbed the Best Student Branch Award in the year 1998, 2000, 2006 and 2009 respectively
Bagged the Outstanding Student Volunteer Award from Kerala Section four times
The student Volunteers of our SB had won the Outstanding Student Volunteer Award from Kerala section in the years 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. In 2006, ten volunteers from CEC won the Volunteer award. In 2009, we have won the Best WIE Volunteer award also in addition to the Outstanding Student Volunteer award. These awards point the amount of volunteerism that IEEE-CEC puts in for the Section activities.
Won the Centre of Excellence
Our SB won the Centre of Excellence from IEEE HQ for the first time in India and third in Asia-Pacific Region. A grant of 3000 USD was awarded. The Centre of Excellence award was awarded to set up a Robotics Lab and through this to enhance the student interests towards robotics. IEEE President 2005, Mr. W. Cleon Anderson, inaugurated this Centre of Excellence Lab during his visit to Kerala in 2005 January. The Centre of Excellence (COE) lab is entirely a student-controlled laboratory
Initiated the First WIE AG in Region 10 and also conducted the first ever WIE STAR in Region 10
Our SB started the affinity group identifying the potential of WIE volunteers and wanting to give them a good platform to gain experience. The then WIE Chairperson, Ms. Seenu Chrispin was privileged to represent WIE of Region 10 at the R10 SC, Hong Kong.
Participation in Region 10 Student Congress in the year 2002, 2004, 2008 and coorganised the R10 SC 2009.
CEC SB has always been keen in providing its student volunteers to attend all possible Region 10 Student Congresses. CEC is the only Student Branch in Kerala Section which has participated for 4 of the total 5, Region 10 Student Congress held till date. In 2002, 2004, 2008 we had a participation of 1, 3, and 6 respectively and the 2009 SC was co organised by CEC from where there was a participation of 7 volunteers. CEC is the only SB to organise an R10 SC from Kerala Section.
Won the Prestigious R10 RAB Larry K Wilson Award twice
Student Branch volunteer Mr. Prijoe Philips Komattu was the one to win the Larry K Wilson award for the first time in Kerala Section in the year 2005. He won it for his exceptional contributions to SB, LINK and Section. After that SB volunteer Mr. Arjun R Pillai won the same in the year 2010 for his exemplary volunteering in SB, LINK and Region 10
Volunteer selected to R10 SAC committee
An active volunteer of the SB, Mr. Arjun R Pillai was given the opportunity to work at the Region 10 Level as the Student Representative of West Coast of Asia-Pacific. He is the first person from Kerala section to be a part of Region 10 being at a student level.
Awareness sessions at more than 25 Colleges
College of Engineering Chengannur played a pioneering role in setting up LINK. As a part of establishment of LINK the volunteers of CEC travelled across the section to handle the IEEE awareness sessions CEC has always taken up the challenge of initiating new SBs and sustaining the existing ones. In the last two years only, the volunteers have been to about 8 colleges for awareness sessions. Out of the 8, 7 colleges have already established Student Branches. Besides the awareness at other colleges, the awareness at CEC also requires a special mention. At CEC, we follow a 2 level awareness; first level is a very brief intro of IEEE to the parents and students at the time of admissions. This will enable the parents to support the students for the cause of joining IEEE. The second level is for the students where an extensive sessions are taken with a duration of 1.5- 2 hrs.
